TP Vision calls for joint forces

“Let’s join forces,” said TP Vision’s Koen Vrielink on the subject of IPTV directly to the TV set.
Vrielink, senior manager technology and marketing of TPVision, said the company is now faced with 550 operators in Europe on four different platforms, satellite DTH, DTT, Cable, and IPTV.
70% of all TV subscribers in Europe are linked to an operator that uses a STB, and for IPTV this is 100%.
“The strong point for STBs is that they are tailored to the services of the operator. At the moment [the combination of DTV and cam is behind in features, so the user proposition is different.”
The company believes the future of STB-less IPTV could be in apps, thereby taking clues from TV services to mobile devices and tablets. “Live TV based on apps via OTT is taking off on tablets.” Also for VOD uses cases, apps are a good solution.
