Netflix testing 4K UltraHD streams

Lifestyle Popcorn NetflixNetflix has posted a number of 4K test videos, with several Ultra HD offerings at different frame rates appearing on the site.
Speaking to Gigaom, a Netflix spokesperson said the company “hopes to launch Ultra HD next year.” At CES in January this year, Netflix and Samsung collaborated to show streaming 4K on Samsung’s stand. At the time, Netflix also launched its Super HD service offering better quality via selected ISPs including Virgin Media, British Telecom, TDC, KPN, Ziggo, and others.
Super HD is not to be confused with the current 4K pilot. Super HD offers bitstreams up to 7Mbps, initially only via selected ISPs, but now also available on others.
During a recent investors call, CEO Reed Hastings said that the company wants to be one of the big suppliers of 4K next year. This could include its proprietary content such as House of Cards, which was shot in native 4K.
