MyTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd has planned to launch digital terrestrial television service in June 2014. The services will be initially launched in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, followed by East Malaysia, northern, southern and central regions, said the company.
MyTV has allocated MYR2.5 billion (USD690 million) for operating expenditure and MYR2 billion (USD552 million) for capital expenditure over the next 15 years or approximately MYR300 million (USD83 million) a year for both opex and capex.
MyTV has reported that it will charge over MYR12 million (USD3.3 million) for a standard definition channel per year to broadcasters for a 24-hour slot. It will initially offer over 30 channels; it will add 30 channels over the next two year and nearly 80 channels by 2019.
The company aims to generate an annual revenue of nearly MYR960 million (USD265 million) in 2019. MyTV partnered with Telekom Malaysia in November to build DTTV transmitters at 60 TM sites. With these 60 sites, MyTV will be able to offer its services to 85% per cent of the population by the end of this year.
“We will be going to the ground. We have identified 148 districts in Malaysia, and we will be going to each of these districts to educate and create awareness,” said Haniza.”We will also need to create awareness amongst potential broadcasters, content and business owners, and brands, on the various ways they can monetise on DTTV,” she added.
