Bangladesh’s broadcasting and telecom regulator, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), has formed an eight-member committee to formulate direct-to-home guidelines. The guidelines will cover business and technological aspects of the DTH service; spectrum assignment and fees; revenue sharing; inter-operator connecting method and distribution method.
BTRC has directed the two DTH licensees – Beximco Communications and Media Buyer – to commercially launch DTH service after the guidelines are in place. Bangladesh government has apparently issued DTH licences without having relevant regulations in place.
The government announced its plans to launch a satellite, Bangabandhu 1. It recently purchased orbital slot for the satellite.
