ABS Group has entered into a strategic agreement with Videocon Group to manufacture set-top-boxes. The newly introduced STB manufacturing business operates under a subsidiary company, ABS Production.
As per the deal, ABS utilises Videocon’s Aurangabad facility to manufacture STBs. It has a capacity of generating one million STBs per month in a single shift. ABS also utilises Videocon’s service centres to provide after-sales service.
The company has manufactured both standard-definition and high-definition STBs using M-Star and Broadcom chipsets respectively. ABS had displayed STBs at Convergence India 2015. It has been testing the STBs on its network for the last one year.
According to Atul Saraf, CMD of ABS Group, the advantage of local manufacturing of STBs is the availability of after-sales service. It also helps MSOs to save over 10% of import duty.
