Indian broadcaster, Prasar Bharati will be getting over USD 500 million in funding to upgrade not only its infrastructure but also its content. The money will be spent on fresh programming content for Doordarshan as well as expanding DD’s DTH platform.
The money, which will also be spent on radio programming, will also go towards the digitisation of its terrestrial network. DD currently has a reach of 32 million viewers across the country. The funds will also be utilised to upgrade studios as well as technologies.
India’s only free DTH service has also been busy adding more channels to its roster. Recently it announced that as many as 50 new channels could be coming under its repertoire. Currently, there are 59 channels coming under DD´s bouquet of which 30 are private channels, 21 DD channels and two channels that telecast parliament sessions.
