India´s only free to air DTH service, DD Direct+ will now be adding the general entertainment channel from Reliance Broadcast Network, Big Magic to its distribution bouquet. This comes after the announcement that public broadcaster Doordarshan, is planning on adding more channels to its DTH platform.
Sunil Kumaran, business head, Big Magic, said that this deal will allow the channel to penetrate through rural India. He said, “Big Magic is very happy to add DD Direct+ to it distribution bouquet. DD Direct+ penetrates into the deeper pockets where even cable TV finds it difficult to reach, adding substantially to our overall channel reach. Our mix of shows appeal to a wide cross section of audiences and the addition of DD Direct+ allows us to take this content to newer audiences, otherwise difficult to reach.”
Big Magic is currently available through all major private DTH players as well as through MSOs. Currently, there are 59 channels coming under DD´s bouquet of which 30 are private channels, 21 DD channels and two channels that telecast parliament sessions.
