Vietnam will issue digital TV standards soon

Vietnam´s Ministry of Information and Communications states that it will issue a set of digital TV standards in preparation for digitization of TV broadcasting. This move is in request from Japanese Business Association in Ho Chi Minh City that includes number of TV makers such as Sony and Panasonic.
This association said that a set of standards are required before making new digital TV sets and would take time for the making. Vietnam planned to stop broadcasting analog TV in five major cities by next year as digital TV will take over. During the transition, households would gain access to digital TV through existing STBs which they would have procured.
Vietnam’s state would help about 2 million poor families for purchasing STBs. TV companies will concentrate on developing content while other companies will take charge of broadcasting. The mandate digitization will happen in four phases and will be first carried out in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Can Tho. While second phase will be carried in 26 provinces which is due for completion by December 31, 2016. The third phase that focuses on 18 provinces and last phase will cover north and central region.
