INDIA: Only 20% of Kolkata city is digitized

Telecom Regulatory authority of India (TRAI) has expressed concern over the slow implementation of mandate Digital Addressable Cable TV system (DAS) in Kolkata city. TRAI states that the overall implementation of subscriber management system (SMS) in the city is just 20% while other three metros registered at least 80% digital TV implementation.
MSOs have been directed to take immediate steps to ensure that the subscriber details and their choice of channels, bouquets and services are entered into the SMS. The Authority would watch the progress in this regard and would take all possible actions, including penal action as per the TRAI Act, to ensure compliance of its regulatory framework.
The regulator states that the cable TV subscribers are requested to cooperate and submit the Consumer Application Forms, complete in all respect, to the respective Cable Operator/ MSO at the earliest, to enjoy the full benefit of digitization.
