HD channels will not be carried on the first DTT multiplex in Belarus but may appear on the second, according to Andrei Kudyrko, the director of the Belarusian Broadcasting Centre.
Quoted in the local media, he added that demand for HD services remains low in Belarus, as could be seen by the take-up of services provided by the cable operators Cosmos TV and MTIS. Kudyrko also said that channels on the second DTT multiplex would be offered on a commercial basis.
Belarus will undergo the first stage of ASO on August 1, with the transition due to be completed on June 15, 2015.
In a separate development, it has been reported in the Russian media that protests are planned in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, against a ban on the installation of satellite dishes without special permission.
