German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has won 82,000 new subscribers in Q2 2014 – considerably more than in Q2 2013 (48,000) -, but ended up deeper in the red.
In total, Sky Deutschland had 3.81 million customers at the end of June 2014.
HDTV continues to be a draught horse: The Sky Premium HD offering gained 130,000 new customers in Q2 2014. With 2.24 million customers, 59% of all subscribers have opted for the Premium HD proposition which contains up to 88 channels (Q2 2013: 51%).
44% of all subscribers now use the DVR Sky+ (Q2 2013: 34%).
Turnover rose by 14% to €428 million in Q2 2014 compared with the same period last year while the EBITDA climbed by 23% to €45 million. However, with 2.5 million the loss below the line was considerably higher than in Q2 2013, due to increased costs, when the loss amounted to just €900,000.
