MStar Semiconductor, Inc. receives first world-wide sink device HDMI 2.0 certification
TAIPEI, Taiwan — MStar Semiconductor, Inc. today announced the certification of the first world-wide sink device under the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) Version 2.0 standard. Achieving certification from HDMI Authorized Test Center (ATC), the MStar HDMI 2.0 Receiver (Rx) digital controller and PHY is the first sink device to achieve all applicable and available HDMI 2.0 compliance with the capabilities to support new 18Gbps bandwidth. Developed by MStar Semiconductor, Inc., a Taiwan-based supplier of ASICs for the consumer and communication electronics markets, the certified Rx digital controller include features from the latest HDMI 2.0 standard which enables the support of 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
“We are very proud to be the first HDMI Adopter to achieve HDMI 2.0 certification for a sink device,” said Sean Lin, general manager of MStar’s Monitor and Display business unit. “With the features that HDMI 2.0 can provide, we bring to world a new interface to display 4K (4094×2160) at 60 frames per second, a technologies revolutionize the consumer’s visual experience and advanced audio support as well.”
HDMI 2.0, which is backwards compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specifications, significantly increases bandwidth up to 18Gbps and adds key enhancements to support continuing market requirements for enhancing the consumer video and audio experience. New functionality includes 4K@50/60, (2160p), which is 4 times the clarity of 1080p/60 video resolution in dynamic synchronization of video and audio streams. HDMI 2.0 as an input interface will be applied into MStar chips from 4K2K monitor scalars to 4K2K TV and STB controllers to further enhance the 4K2K display business momentum. With both sink and source devices having now achieved HDMI 2.0 certification, the industry will bring products to market that take display technology to new heights.
