Irdeto has detected over 150 unique hosting sites and over 365 unique linking sites which delivered unauthorized live streaming of World Cup 2014 matches.
Between June 12 and July 13, Irdeto’s Network Operations Centre and anti-piracy teams across the globe had disrupted approximately 3,743 streams which impacted over 10.6 million illegal viewers with a potential revenue value of nearly USD 120.5 million.
European broadcasters were the main targets for illegal streams and nearly 27% of streams were detected, said Irdeto in a report. Irdeto has indicated a need for revenue assurance and anti-piracy services ahead of the new Premier League season. Irdeto had removed 199 live YouTube streams, disrupting approximately 2.5 million viewers.
The report also listed top five pirated matches – Netherlands versus Argentina semi-final (252 streams), Brazil versus Germany semi-final (214 streams), Russia versus South Korea group stage match (197 streams), Chile versus Brazil second round match (193 streams) and Brazil versus Colombia quarter final (190 streams).
