MCOT agrees to use single broadcast infrastucture

Thailand’s state-owned Modernine TV has revised its network expansion plan to use a single broadcast infrastructure in line with recommendations from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).The three other network operators have also agreed to use the same broadcast tower sites.
Chalit Lailikit, vice-president for engineering at MCOT plc, the government agency which operates Modernine TV, said the revision will increase its network investment costs and it will seek approval for extra funding from the National Economic and Social Development Board to buy digital TV network equipment.
Last week, NBTC agreed on a technical framework for digital TV network expansion to prevent frequency jams. Col Natee Sukonrat, chairman of the NBTC’s broadcasting committee, said the ruling would benefit viewers as they can access digital TV signals easily, by turning their antenna to one direction.
