Russian OTT: market in figures

ivi.ruThe value of Russia’s legal video OTT services amounted to R2.6 billion (€41.15 million) in 2014, or 58% more than a year earlier.
Quoting data produced by TMT Consulting, Telecom Daily says that the market will grow by a further 45% this year to R3.8 billion and should be worth nearly R9.5 billion by 2020.
However, it adds that this is accompanied by a negative trend, namely a slowdown in the ad market, including video ads on the internet.
As of the end of 2014 OTT ad revenues nevertheless still exceeded those from subscriptions, the figures being R1.67 billion and R0.93 billion respectively.
Subscription fees grew from 22% to 36% of total OTT revenues in 2014 and are projected to increase to two-thirds of the total of 2020.
In 2014, in the paid OTT segment, EST (buy) and TVOD (rental) together accounted for 84% of revenues and 16% on SVOD.
There were over 20 legal OTT services in Russia in 2014, with only six claiming a market share of over 5%.
The latter were Ivi.ru (28%), Okko (22%), Tvigle (10%), Megogo (9%), Now.ru/Rubtube (7%) and Zoomby (5%).
