Digital TV take-up is expected to speed up rapidly in Russia over the next few years, with 98% of households receiving services by 2020, according to Digital TV Research.
However, nearly a third of homes will be primary DTT by 2020, up from only 7.5% at the end of 2013.
Digital TV Research expects that ASO in Russia will take place in 2018, with analogue cable switch off happening even later.
Indeed, analogue cable penetration will fall from 37% in 2010 to 2% by 2020. In terms of pay-TV, penetration will rise from two-thirds of homes at the end of 2013 to 70% in 2015, before falling to 62.7% by 2020.
Digital pay-TV penetration will rise from 36% in 2013 to 60.7% by 2020.
Meanwhile, pay-TV revenues will increase by $1.4 billion between 2010 and 2020 to reach $2.2 billion. DTH ARPUs are expected to increase, with cable and IPTV falling slowly.
