The Hungarian regulator NMHH has upheld a fine of HUF60 million (€202,610) imposed on UPC, the country’s leading cable operator.
According to the NMHH, UPC informed its subscribers by mail in November 2012 that it was terminating their existing contracts, concluded orally or in writing, and at the same time introducing new ones with the same terms.
However, the company ignored statutory provisions for the termination of contracts by mutual consent, which in the NMHH’s view was a serious violation of customers’ interests.
The NMHH initially imposed the fine in July and has ruled that UPC must adhere to the terms of the original contracts.
The regulator says UPC can still appeal against the fine in court.
