This year should see a tipping point for TV reception in Romania, with the number of homes watching digital cable or satellite services for the first time exceeding 50% of the total.
Quoting research undertaken by TNS OBOP between 2011-2015, using peoplemeter measurement conducted by Kantar Media for ARMA, Media Expres reports that anologue cable still remains the most common type of TV reception in Romania, being used by 51% of households. However, it is set to fall by three percentage points this year, coinciding with ASO and failure to launch a public DTT service.
Indeed, analogue cable’s share fell from 57.3% to 51.2% of TV households between 2011 and 2015, with terrestrial reception falling from 6% to 2.4% over the same period.
Meanwhile, satellite recepption fell from 26.9% to 24.3%, recovering slightly from a figure of 23.6% in 2014, and digital cable rose from 9.7% to 22%, between 2011-2015.
