Doordarshan made mandatory for cable operators

The cable operators in more than 40 cities in India have to been told to air 21 Doordarshan channels and in addition to three other channels as part of their rosters by the country´s Information and Broadcasting ministry.
The ministry has issued a notification making the airing of the 24 channels mandatory. The channels will have to air in the cities that are currently undergoing the digitisation process. In addition to 21 DD channels, operators will also have to air, Rajya Sabha TV, Gyan Darshan channel and Lok Sabha TV.
Earlier this month it was announced that Prasar Bharati will be getting over USD 500 million in funding to not only upgrade its technology but also content, specifically for Doordarshan as well as radio programming. DD currently has a reach of over 32 million viewers across the country.
