Romania ended 2014 with a pay-TV penetration figure of 92%.
According to data published by the regulator ANCOM, the total number of subscribers increased by 5% during the year to 6.9 million.
Cable remained the most popular mode of reception, with 4.38 million subscribers (+6.3%), followed by DTH with 2.46 million (+4.7%) and IPTV with 68,000 (+22.1%).
As of the end of 2014 60% of all subscribers lived in urban areas, with mots of these (80%) using cable. Meanwhile, in rural areas 61% of pay-TV subscribers opted for DTH.
Digital TV reception continued to increase, up by 9% in 2014 to 4.23 million of the 6.9 million pay-TV households. Of these, 58% were via DTH, 40% via cable and 2% via IPTV.
Of the 4.38 million cable homes, 1.7 million, or 15% more than a year earlier, opted for digital services.
