Online TV challenger FilmOn has debuted a new technology that enables users to access its antenna and DVR system through remote desktops.
According to the company, consumers can access a single non-public connection to a free public broadcast selected from hundreds of local free to air channels in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Miami, Boston, Tampa, Denver, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix and Washington, DC.
FilmOn argues this opens up new audiences and improves the economics for independent broadcasters.
Last September, a Washington DC court backed ABC, NBC and Fox Television Stations in their assertion that FilmOn X is “violating their exclusive right to public performance of their copyrighted works, which include local programs and some of the country’s most popular evening television shows”.
