The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has stated that almost half of all registered DTH subscribers in the country were not accessing satellite TV services as of end-September, 2013.
The latest quarterly edition of ‘The Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicators’ states that total registered DTH subscribers numbered 60.71 million as of 30 September, 2013, but the number of active subscribers was 34.26 million – equivalent to just 56% of the registered base.
TRAI said the registered DTH subscribers grew 3% from end June, and that the number of private satellite TV channels was 784, of which 187 were pay channels.
The maximum number of TV channels (Pay, FTA and Local) carried by any of the reported Multi System Operators (MSOs) was 218 against just 100 channels in the analogue form.
