Russia’s leading DTH platform Tricolor TV has issued a report of its anti-piracy activities in 2014.
In it, the company says that law enforcement officers prevented attempts to spread pirate smart cards and malicious programmes in several regions of Russia.
Criminal proceedings were instituted against 14 offenders, with eight having already been summed to court.
However, its biggest success was against the owner of a pirate server in Belarus, who if now found guilty faces two years imprisonment.
Tricolor TV was able to block a total of 105 internet sites providing access to its services.
It also acted against the illegal distribution of its services in public places.
Offences were committed in several Russian cities, including Stavropol, Krasnodar, Rostov, Volgograd and Nizhny Novgorod.
After investigating 457 locations and producing 68 administrative reports, the company was able to claim R620,000 (€10,615) in reparations.
Cable operators were also found to be distributing Tricolor TV illegally, with one in Novocherkassk now facing criminal proceedings.
Tricolor TV also notes the problem of cardsharing, with owners transferring the services they have access to, usually for a payment in dollars.
