TDC Group has announced a major upgrade of its cable network that will give half of Danish households access to superfast broadband at speeds of 1 Gbps.
Announcing a new three-year strategic plan, the company said it would merge the two consumer facing brands YouSee and TDC so that YouSee would be the sole brand known to the consumer. This puts an end to the somewhat confusing state where YouSee provided cable TV while IPTV services were branded TDC.
Group CEO and President Pernille Erenbjerg said it was the most ambitious and comprehensive upgrade ever made in the cable network in Denmark. “We are opening a super highway of digital entertainment services, where the sky – not the speed – is the limit. Already before the end of 2017, half of all Danish households will have access to 1 Gbps speeds – 10 times faster than the political objectives for the year 2020.”
In addition to the coming upgrade of the cable network to 1 Gbps speed, the ambition is also to offer 10 Mbps for virtually all addresses in Denmark, as well as 100 Mbps to 70 per cent of all households up to 2018.
In Norway, Get will shortly launch Get Mobil supplemented by increased distribution of superfast broadband for the benefit of even more customers.
