Altice Group, which owns the cablenet Cabovisao, is suing the Portuguese Football League claiming it has failed to honour its contract with Ma Chaine Sport channel (MCS).
Diario Economico says Altice is accusing the league of having sold the contract for transmission of the league twice over. But an unnamed source at the league claims MCS did not establish a dedicated channel to show the matches, which were instead offered to rival TVI.
In November 2012 TVI announced it had signed a contract with the league to screen the League Cup over two seasons.
One month from the start of the 2014/15 season the league is already in difficulty because it is still without a sponsor.
A large financial settlement could put the league itself at risk.
