Verimatrix to start UHD security certification

Verimatrix has given details of its new Ultra HD security certification, Viewright.

It’s based on MovieLabs’ Specifications for Next Generation Video and Enhanced Content Protection. Already chipset developers including Broadcom, Marvel, MStar and HiSilicon, have introduced designs that fully meet UHD security requirements.

“MovieLabs’ specifications have set the bar for distributing premium content at UHD quality very high, with stringent requirements needed for studio approval. Ultra Security gives operators confidence that leading vendors of UHD-capable chipsets are adhering to guidelines that have been developed in response to studios’ priorities,” said Petr Peterka, CTO at Verimatrix. “Ultra Security certification for client devices uniquely ensures a balanced, integrated approach to software and hardware subsystems that provides a formidable barrier to piracy in a form that can be updated as threat models evolve.”

Ultra Security uses three familiar methods; hardware-based security, trusted software security, and forensic watermarking. Ultra Security also extends the certification Verimatrix has developed in partnership with Dutch security test lab Riscure to help pay-TV operators determine the UHD-readiness of their chipsets by validating the security of the technology within their consumer equipment.

Selevision selects Verimatrix VCAS

Selevision, a Saudi Arabian technology and service provider, has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System for its entertainment service aptly called Seevii, which is delivered via a hybrid IPTV and OTT network.

HiSilicon embeds Verimatrix, Dolby solutions in STB chipsets to support UHD services

HiSilicon, Chinese semiconductor firm, has partnered with Verimatrix, San-Diego-based digital TV security solution provider and Dolby Laboratories, an American audio compression technology provider, to power its system-on-chipsets designed for Ultra high definition set-top boxes for DVB, IPTV and OTT markets including Android platform-based STBs.

HiSilicon has integrated Verimatrix advanced security and forensic watermarking and Dolby Vision into the HiSilicon Hi3798/Hi3796 family of system-on-chipsets.

By embedding VideoMark forensic watermarking technology into the Hi3798CV200 chipset, it assures an integrated multi-layer security architecture. It enables pay-TV operators to secure revenue for UHD services, meet stringent content owner requirements and secure Android platform. With the integration of Dolby Vision, HiSilicon Hi3798C V200 chipsets can provide a secure ultra-low power Android platform with impressive TV experiences for feature-rich 4K entertainment and gaming services.

Verimatrix secures Telefonica’s Movistar TV

Telefónica has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV to provide security for its Movistar TV.

VCAS for IPTV currently ensures revenue security for the premium channels offered through the Movistar TV service; however, in the future, VCAS will also easily scale to protect the entire offering. Movistar TV currently has two million subscribers in Spain alone.

Neotion integrates Verimatrix into CI+

Neotion says it has successfully integrated the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for Broadcast-Hybrid revenue security solution in its latest generation of CI Plus 1.3 Conditional Access Module (CAM).The announcement was made at the CSTB expo in Moscow.

The Neotion Advanced Security CAM with VCAS for Broadcast-Hybrid directly plugs into any connected CI Plus 1.3 TV set with built-in IP interface.

It combines the standard-based VCAS Broadcast-Hybrid solution for satellite, cable and terrestrial broadcast networks with an IP return path via Internet/broadband network. The product is now compliant with the latest Verimatrix high level security requirements based on embedded chipset protection – while enabling two-way key and entitlement management over IP networks only.

ALi partners with Verimatrix

Taiwan-based chipset supplier, ALi Corporation, has integrated a revenue security solution, Video Content Authority System, from Verimatrix on its chipsets to provide digital rights managment for over-the-top and IPTV platform.

The ALi M3912 IPTV/OTT platform which is a compact HDMI dongle comes with HTML5 browser, it assures low power consumption and high efficiency. It includes a dedicated security CPU, offering secure content delivery within a hardware environment.

SMiT and Verimatrix combine for CI+ demo

SMiT and Verimatrix are staging a joint demonstration that shows the new features of the CI+ standard.

IP delivery and multi stream features are being supported by Verimatrix’s highest level of client security technology.

CI+ 1.4, developed within the DVB, extends the routing and decryption of premium protected content delivered over IP to a network interface. This enables service providers and network operators to provide a single CICAM that can receive and decrypt both broadcast and IP-delivered content offerings with a single standard form factor device.

SMiT and Verimatrix develop cardless CI+

A cardless version of the CI+ conditional access module is under development by SMiT in partnership with Verimatrix.

The two companies plan to integrate SMiT’s Advanced Security CI+ 1.3 CAM with the Verimatrix ViewRight client library.

The CI+ 1.3 CAM will eliminate the need for a smart card, allowing operators to minimise costs by skipping the  CAM-smart card pairing process without compromising security.
