Indonesia Orange TV picks Elemental’s video solutions for its OTT services

Indonesia’s Orange TV Group has picked Elemental video processing solutions for its Genflix over-the-top (OTT).

Subscribers of Genflix will now be given access to content on the OTT app via Elemental® Live and Elemental® Server. Genflix, which was launched in September, 2013 is Indonesia’s first video OTT service. Prepaid TV service, Orange TV, believes that Elemental solutions will help it deliver content to subscribers living in rural Indonesia.

“OTT does not have a single standardized delivery technology, digital rights management, or standardized consumption devices compared with direct-to-home broadcast services. Genflix needs flexibility to serve this complex market,” said Bobby Sidharta, Chief Technology Officer of Orange TV. “Elemental has the right technology to meet these needs while taking our future growth plans into account. It has also proven easy to integrate and easy to operate.”

Orange TV seeks more Romanian subs

Orange is making a big push to attract more subscribers to its DTH service in Romania.

According to ZF, Orange TV, which was launched in 2013 and currently has over 110,000 subscribers – equivalent to around 5% of the country’s total DTH market – is being offered free of charge for seven months to customers who sign two-year contracts.

Its monthly subscription fees range between €5 and €16, with the monthly rental for a decoder being €2.50.

Orange’s new campaign is aimed specifically at its mobile customers and those willing to sign a mobile contract.

They are exempt from activation and installation fees, each amounting to €20.

Orange TV grows in Romania

The DTH platform operated by Orange in Romania now has over 110,000 subscribers.

Speaking in an edition of Live ZF at the International Digital Forum 2014 and quoted by Media Expres, Jean Francois Fallacher, the CEO of Orange Romania, added that subscribers to the service, which was launched 15 months ago, are increasingly accessing it on various devices.

Smartphones (60%) are the most used, followed by tablets (30%) and computers and laptops (10%).

Orange TV currently offers viewers 111 channels, 48 of which are in HD.
