JADOO UNVEILS LAUNCHING OF DIGITAL TV SERVICES IN BANGLADESH

Jadoo subscribers will be better treated. Mohammadi Group’s Digi Jadoo Broadband Ltd got down to launching digital cable connections to procure its subscribers with more channels and better services. Connections already started a month before and the number of customers counts now up to one thousand, according to Navidul Huq, the director of the company.
For clear picture and the delivery of digitally unimpaired signals, Jadoo is selling set-up boxes 31.33USD and 44.56USD each. The set-up boxes will be affixed with Jadoo’s fibre optic cables to each TV set. Compared to conventional analogue system where subscribers are limited to only a certain number of channels, they will now have access to broader range of at least 500 digital connections and will be charged Tk 300 per month.
Huq revealed that Jadoo’s target is to sell 100 000 STBs in Dhaka, where the business will be run at first. Afterwards, it will branch out across Chittagong and Sylhet. In addition, with this digital system, illegal agents will be easily tracked down since each agent will have a connection with the main server at the distributing company.
“I hope digital cable connections would gain popularity in Bangladesh as the companies will take care of the customers”, said Huq.

Bangladesh’s Gazi TV secures rights from BCB

Bangladesh’s satellite channel, Gazi TV, has acquired worldwide media rights for USD 20.025 million from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), for six years (May 2014 to April 2020).
WorldTel which was acquired by ESPN-STAR has secured a five-year rights for USD 11.75 million and Nimbus has invested USD 56.88 million.
Gazi TV is planning to sell the rights, of the three-match ODI series between India and Bangladesh, to Star Sports for USD 1 million; while Star has not shown interest in the deal. Reportedly, Gazi’s attempts to sell ODI sports rights to Indian state broadcaster, Doordarshan (DD), has gone in vain. As DD relies on sharing the feed with a satellite channel rather than buy the rights, exclusively.

Bangladesh´s Jamuna TV gets airwaves

It´s good news for Bangladesh based TV channel, Jamuna TV as it has been allocated airwaves by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on the recommendation of the country’s Ministry of Information.
Sunil Kanti Bose, chairman of BTRC announced that the television channel whose test transmissions were shut down on November 2009 will be allowed to air content once again, according to a report in Bangladesh based paper, Sangbad Sangstha. Jamuna TV had filed a petition on November 2009 with the courts to overturn the decision but at that time the higher court had upheld the government’s order.
More recently on May 2013, BTRC has further halted the transmissions of private satellite TV channel Diganta TV and Islamic TV. At the time the government had given no explanation as to why the transmissions were halted.
