Russia’s MTS is making preparations to launch a DTH platform this autumn.
Quoting an industry source, ITAR-TASS andAKTR report that the telco has ordered a test batch of 5,000 dishes, with the first batch to be used consisting of 30,000.
Meanwhile, another (senior) source said he expects the launch will take place in the next 2-3 months.
MTS, on the other hand, has refused to confirm or deny that preparations for the DTH launch are now under way.
Although MTS is already a provider of pay-TV services, it employs DCB-C and FTTB in the regions and IPTV and GPON in Moscow. Its pay-TV subscriber total, according to iKS Consulting, fell by 12% to 2.57 million in 2013.
