Russia's DTH services move from Eutelsat-36A to Express-AMU1

Active DTH networks successfully switched to the new Express-AMU1 satellite (36E)

MOSCOW — On 10 February 2016, in conjunction with the European satellite operator Eutelsat and the Russian digital TV operators, RSCC has switched the active DTH networks from the European Eutelsat-36A to the new Express-AMU1 satellite (36E).

As the result, the digital Tricolor TV and NTV+ are transmitted to the European part of Russia via the Russian Express-AMU1 satellite.

RSCC transfers satellite traffic

The Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) has successfully completed the transfer of Express-AM22’s current traffic load to Express-AM6, located at 53 degrees East.

It is now translating Express-AM22 from 53 degrees East to 80.1 degrees East, with the aim being for the satellite to start operating in its new orbital position on August 5.

Express-AM6 was deployed on April 22 this year in the key 53 degrees East orbital position, which covers Russia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

As part of the process, it was planned to shift Express-AM22 to 80.1 degrees East.

RSCC currently operates a total of 11 satellites.

New DTH platform for Africa

The Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) has entered into partnership with Germany’s Romantis to create a new DTH platform covering Africa.

Employing the new Russian Express-AM6 satellite, launched on October 21, and German teleport VicusLuxLink, it will allow new and existing broadcasters to launch national and regional TV services all over the continent.

Commenting on the platform, Yuri Prokhorov, RSCC’s DG, said: “Based on the use of RSCC Express-AM6 spacecraft capacity, this project pioneers on the African continent, and in this respect we are truly happy that the project is implemented together with Romantis acting as one of our key partners. In accordance with our target, when the satellite is commissioned and put into the commercial operation, we are planning to deliver the TV broadcasting services on the African market which presents a very attractive business platform. The broadcasters will get the ready-made solution to provide such services.”
