Star India introduces Star Movies Select HD

Star India is launching new English movie channel called Star Movies Select HD. The channel will be available only via direct-to-home service players.

The channel- Star Movies Select HD- will go on air 9 July, 2015 on Tata Sky’s DTH platform. Star has promised no less than 30 movie premiers on the new English movie channel.

“Star Movies Select HD is not just a new English movie channel, it’s a promise – to deliver best of storytelling from the house of Star India. We have curated content from the biggest Hollywood studios, created a programming line-up that will need no introduction to our Select audience. Movies unreleased in India, award winning premieres and festivals are just some of the initiatives that will enthrall them with the sheer strength of spectacular stories,” said Kevin Vaz from Star India, according to exchange4media.

The English TV content space is seeing plenty of activity lately. Times Network has rolled out is revamped English movie channel MN+. Viacom18 is also introducing two new English general entertainment channels.

Star issues disconnection notice to Sun Direct

Star India has issued a disconnection notice to Sun Direct for non-payment of subscription fees. The payment issue between the broadcaster and the DTH provider is expected to cause service disruption to the latter’s customers.

Channels such as Star Movies, Star World, National Geographic Channel, NGC Wild, Suvarna, Star Vijay, Asianet, Asianet Plus and Star Sports 1 will be not be accessible to Sun Direct subscribers, reports Television Post.

Back in December 2014, Star India had served disconnection notice to Reliance Digital TV over non-payment of dues. Multi-system operator, Siti Cable, was also issued a similar notice. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Arbitration Tribunal or TDSAT had to intervene and direct Star to accept a cheque of INR100 million to settle the delayed payments issue.
