CNS plans OTT investment

Taiwanese multi-system operator, China Network Systems (CNS), plans to invest in over-the-top (OTT) video content as it expects to complete its digitisation programme by the end- 2015.

According to reports, the company has made a cumulative investment of NTD 20 billion (USD 653 million) to NTD 30 billion (USD 979 million) and has digitised 80% of its cable TV networks.

CNS currently has oevr 1.28 million cable TV subscribers. The company plans to shift its business focus this year to OTT video service, for which it has been acquiring content based on licensing, shared revenue or other similar models.

CNS launches OTT system with IVMall

Taiwan’s multi-system operator, CNS, has launched an Over-The-Top (OTT) based hybrid system in June, in association with multiscreen television solutions provider and system integrator, IVMall. The OTT system adds Video-on-Demand, catch-up, start-over and network PVR features to CNS’ existing linear cable service.
“We are excited to be the first cable company to launch an OTT based hybrid system in such short time. By partnering with IVMALL, we are assured of the most flexible OTT system, supporting new application fast to market, together with content protection available,” said Henry Chang, Chief Operation Officer of CNS.
IVMall has implemented its end-to-end multiscreen solution, Locostream, based on HLS technology which is capable and suitable with open Internet network. It provides convergence balance between traditional feature and new media feature,
